Blog friends who don't use Blogger...

Advice needed.

I think I want to move away from Blogger (Spent 30+ mins writing a detailed recap of the outing with Clif just to have it disappear on me.), but I need educating on the subject.

What is a good alternative?  Wordpress? I know Owl Jones had some serious issues recently with them.

What about starting from scratch and buying a domain name?  How much money does that cost? Do I need to be an HTML wiz to go that route?  That would let me change my URL to something representing the current name of the blog right?

Would that even make life easier for me?  Is it worth it?

Please, any advice is greatly appreciated.  This isn't the first time Blogger has randomly eaten a post that I had worked hard on.

I had my own domain and it looked like a 90 year old designed it, using fonts from Fresh Prince of Bel Air. I went to blogger 4 years ago and have had my fair share of problems. Like deleted posts (don't worry, they usually reappear in about a week), and having my login cancelled???? for two weeks.

Wordpress is a very nice option (certainly flashier and more professional than blogger), but it has limitations too.

Bottom line is that if you want a blog that looks very different from everything else out there, you either need to be prepared to spend lots of time learning how to code, or find yourself a cheap designer.

Note: my last cheap designer (worked for duck meat) stopped working on the site, halfway through my redesign.

Good luck!

I just type long blogs in my word program and once I'm finished, I just cut and paste it into blogger. I immediately save it, add pictures and publish the post. It works for me!

I just typed out a big comment thanking you guys for your suggestions and saying that no, I didn't hit ctrl+z and then blogger refreshed and erased my comment. Awesome.

I think I'll check out wordpress soon. don't know that I have the time/money to get my own domain.

I've considered the same thing myself, and I'd be interested to see how your transition goes. I've gone so far as to create a wordpress account, but I'd like to keep everything looking at least similar to what I've got now. Or maybe Google can just fix what's broken in Blogger (hope that's not too much to ask)

I've had some of these same problems with Blogger too. Wordpress is nice, but I find it a bit more complicated-not difficult, just a bit more time consuming at first. One option would be to get your own domain (you can get one from bluehost for like 6 or 7 bucks a month) and install wordpress for free. Basically you would be using wordpress, but you would have your own domain. In other words, your site would be introtobassfishing.com instead of introtobassfishing.wordpress.com. This would help with search engine traffic too-if that is something that matters to you.

Good luck with your decision ...I am looking at various options this wkd. I believe that I will stick with Blogger and just go .com. I believe you are going to find glitches in most formats...
